Since our charter in 2010, members have joyfully committed themselves to a wide variety of volunteer service projects within and nearby our community. As Kiwanians, were are dedicated to meeting the needs and challenges of our local children, as well as supporting global Kiwanis indicatives to effect change in communities worldwide.
What is Kiwanis?
WHAT WE DO
Club members Lynne Catelotti, Laurie Mac Donald, and Noreen Barrett donated 5 teddy bears on behalf of Kiwanis to the W. F. Bruen Rescue Squad for their ambulances to give to children.
Past Super Distinguished Lieutenant Governor, Lynne Catelotti, received a George F. Hixson Award at our Divisional this month for supporting childrens’ lives through health and nutrition, education and literacy, and youth leadership development.
Our first annual Touch A Truck event was in October of 2023. It gave families a day out and it gave kids a chance to look closely at every day work vehicles in person. Look for it again this Fall.
This year, 28 students and 6 high school assistant coaches participated in our annual tennis clinic. Thank you to David Green, CHS tennis coach, all high school age coaches and students for making our third annual tennis clinic a great success. It was free for East Greenbush School District students, grades 3-9. We plan to do the same next year in early June again.
Thank you to all who donated new or gently used shoes, sandals or boots.
We collected footwear of all kinds and donated them to women in other countries to start their own businesses. Our affiliate organization teaches them entrepreneurial skills and helps them get started. They can use male, female and children’s shoes, boots, sneakers, slippers, flip flops etc. The drive is complete and we raised over $1,000 to use in our community.
Rensselaer Street Soldiers
Every third Saturday, we participate in Street Soldiers on Broadway, Rensselaer, under the overpass. If you’d like to contribute, contact Noreen at [email protected] or 518-283-1215.
Bells for Albany Med Children’s Trauma Unit
Every year around the holidays, we sell paper bells at Colonie Center and donate 100% of the proceeds to Albany Med’s Children’s Trauma Care Unit. If you supported this cause, thank you for your donation. Contact us if you’d like to contribute this year.
